Remember who is on the $50 Federal Reserve Note? Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., is betting most people don’t remember. Three round and four octagonal 1915-S Panama-Pacific $50 gold commemoratives will highlight the official auction of the American Numismatic Association National Money Show conducted March 25-28 by Heritage. The International Coin Club of El Paso, Texas, has produced limited edition medals commemorating Fort Bliss, a U.S. Army post organized in 1848 and located in New Mexico and Texas. When my wife Kathy and I went to London in late July of 2008 for a cruise, we weren’t sure what the numismatic components were going to be, but they turned out to make it the best coin collecting trip. After several days of amazing steadiness after some temporary weakness, gold has begun to shine again. Some of the world’s most famous and valuable coins and paper money, including a multi-million dollar nickel, rare $20 gold pieces and $100,000 bills, will be on display at the 2010 American Numismatic Association’s National Money Show March 25-27. Whatever goes up either must or might come down. It’s probably one of those scientific rules I never bothered to learn in school, but it certainly is true. More often than not something that goes up will either come down or at minimum it will not keep going up at the same pace. Need a change of pace? Collecting can be more than filling holes in an album, or crossing off items on your want list. A creative approach to numismatics can enable a collector to build a unique collection that has its own challenges. |
