Welcome to 2023! This is the first Mint Statistics report Numismatic News staff have compiled in the new year – so let’s take a look.

It’s fair to say that gold and silver bullion are the stars of the show so far. We’ve seen bullion coins in the form of gold Buffaloes and American Eagles come out of the gate strong. January sales for the Buffalo coins has come in at 44,500, while gold Eagles are at 101,000 for the 1-ounce version. Silver is far from being left out with a January posting of 3,949,000 Eagles – nearing 4 million in sales in just the first 18 days of the year.

Other United States Mint offerings that are performing well are familiar ones at this point. The 2022 silver proof set has increased by 4,329 in sales since our last tally for a total to date of 236,373. The 2022 uncirculated set has sold 5,574 pieces since last count, bringing its total to 220,298.

There are no newly issued coins or related products to speak of this time around, but we have the Ohio American Innovation dollar bags and rolls to look forward to beginning Jan. 30.
