January Eagle sales promising
By Jan. 9, sales by the U.S. Mint of 2012 silver bullion American Eagle coins to its Authorized Purchasers totaled 4,257,000 coins.
By Jan. 9, sales by the U.S. Mint of 2012 silver bullion American Eagle coins to its Authorized Purchasers totaled 4,257,000 coins.
This already is about two-thirds of the record January 2011 total of 6,422,000.
For the gold 1 ounce American Eagle, sales totaled 59,000 coins so far compared to 130,500 for all of January 2011.
Sales totals for the fractionals are far higher than January 2011 already.
The 17,000 1/2 ounce coins sold compare to just 1,000 last year, while 30,000 1/4 ounce coins beat handily the 2,000 shipped in January 2011.
Popular 1/10th ounce gold Eagles sold at 75,000 compared to 20,000 sold in the entire month last year.
