What’s New in NumisMaster: February 2025

February’s update on new entries, pricing, and images for the NumisMaster database.

The Deer from the “Congo Wildlife in Golden Shapes” series for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (KM #411) is the first superlative coin art of this size. It is 0.999 gold, weighs 0.5 grams, and has a Chromonite Colour application.

This month, we are concentrating on the countries that did not produce many coins, if any, in 2024. Countries like Argentina, Bhutan, Cambodia, and Denmark, to name a few, are now complete until the next releases. We also ended the month by adding new SC (Pick) numbers to some countries’ bank notes. Argentina, Colombia, and Denmark are now current with their issues in coins and paper money. As we go into 2025, you will see more countries current with both their coins and bank notes, with the goal of having it all backdated and updated by the end of 2025. Argentina received four more SC numbers and eight variants, Denmark had three new SC numbers with nine variants, and Colombia had twenty-seven variants added. It is very exciting to get our paper money going again!

With spot metal prices settling somewhat, this past month has afforded us time to focus on restructuring values in several disparate areas. In Spain, we adjusted prices and added new values for circulating and commemorative Euro coins. This was approached similarly to what was done in Portugal the month before. Paraguay had a complete overhaul to its 19th- and 20th-century values based on current auction results. Stemming from a customer comment, we corrected mintmarks for Trinidad and Tobago. We then went on to create updated value structures for all listings in this interesting island republic on the southernmost edge of the Caribbean. Also generated from a customer inquiry was a nice revision of Peru’s 1/5, 1/2, and 1 Libra gold bullion coins, which have recently become more appreciated on the auction block. Finally, we broadened our perspective and began the task of updating all gold coinage of Peru, starting with cob escudos, for which well-preserved examples have recently garnered more attention at auction than ever before.

This Month’s Frequently Asked Question:

This month, we received many emails with questions regarding mints, mintmarks, and the countries they mint for. For example, it may not be common knowledge that RCM stands for Royal Canadian Mint or that RCM mints coins for Uruguay. We plan to compile a list of mints with country names and mintage dates and make it available on our website for reference. If you have any questions or comments, please email us at numismaster@aimmedia.com.
