The Whitman Baltimore Expo is a biannual event held in November and March of each year. This year’s Baltimore Spring Expo is held on March 19-21, 2020, at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Md.
Auction lot viewing kicks off at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, in Room 307. It closes at 6 p.m. Stack’s Bowers is the official auctioneer of the expo and is holding eight sessions throughout the duration of the show. The first session is Wednesday, March 18, entitled “Numismatic Americana and Early American Coins, Featuring Selections from the Richard Jewell Collection.”
The next four sessions will be held Thursday, March 19 and the last three on Friday, March 20. One of these sessions will feature 1884 and 1885 Trade dollars. For more details on these rarities, click here.
This expo isn’t just for the adults, however. Youngsters ages six to 12 can participate in “Kid’s Korner” beginning Thursday, March 19, at noon. During the “Fill Your Album” event, kids are provided a coin album and pennies and must fill in as many dates as they can find in 15 minutes. In the “Coin Grab,” kids reach into the treasure chest for a handful of valuable coins. If they are up for coloring, they have the opportunity to choose from a variety of coin coloring sheets to do with as they artistically please. Every child gets a goodie bag with collectibles donated by expo coin dealers.
Also, all Scouts and families are invited to attend the BSA Coin Collecting Merit Badge Class. This is a workshop on Saturday, March 20, where Boy Scouts can earn the Coin Collecting merit badge and Wolf Scouts have the opportunity to complete requirement #6 (Start a Collection) for the Wolf Badge. Several free gifts will be offered to Scouts and their families to encourage their pursuit of coin collecting as a hobby.
For more information, to volunteer, or to register for the program, call (214) 4373 or email info@whitmanexpo.com. Registration is required and must be confirmed by Whitman Expo Staff.
Expos and conventions are a great way for coin club members to meet up, and this expo is no different.
