It is the largest numismatic gathering in the world, and the United States had representation among the many countries in attendance at the 2020 World Money Fair in Berlin, Germany. In addition to a U.S. Mint booth on the expansive WMF bourse, American representatives participated in events throughout the week of the fair.
Members of the U.S. Mint and American Numismatic Association attended a reception at the Japanese Embassy in Berlin, hosted by Ambassador Yagi Takeshi Jan. 29.
Each year, the World Money Fair names a guest of honor, and the Japan Mint received the distinction for 2020. Makoto Kawashima, president of the Japan Mint, joined Ambassador Takeshi in welcoming numismatic guests from around the world to an evening featuring Japanese culture and cuisine.
