A rare and previously unknown National Bank Note has been found by Scotsman Auction Company.

The firm will offer it for sale Nov. 2 at the Silver Dollar and Rare Coin Expo at the St. Charles, Mo., Convention Center.

The note is a Series 1882 $5 Brown Back with serial number 1 from The First National Bank of Cherryvale, Kan.

The federal bank charter number is 3277.

Scotsman said this bank is one of four to issue notes in Cherryvale, but it only released Brown Backs. Just $310 face value are outstanding, and as such, it is possible that no other examples exist.

The note is graded an overall VF with great signatures and a minor split that has never been processed.
