The American Numismatic Association (ANA) has announced the theme of its 2022 National Coin Week: “Dynamic Designs, Artistic Masterpieces.”
ANA member Ralph Wetterhahn was the winner of the theme contest. He will receive a 2022 American Eagle 1-ounce silver proof coin for submitting the chosen theme.
“Money has served as a canvas for some of history’s most beautiful and popular visual masterpieces,” the ANA explained. “Incredible artists have long been called on to produce striking designs emblematic of kingdom or country.”
The 99th annual event, meant to celebrate and spread the word about numismatics and the hobby of collecting, is set for April 17-23. It “will focus on beautiful numismatic art from ancient times to present, and the talented artists who create it,” according to the ANA.
The association will offer educational and promotional materials for the week-long celebration, including activities for members and Young Numismatists, the annual Club Trivia Challenge, daily online trivia questions, articles from its publication, The Numismatist, and items from the ANA collection.
