The Eliasberg 1909-D Saint-Gaudens double eagle in Professional Coin Grading Service MS67 CAC grade sold for $329,000 at the 30th Regency Auction held by Legend Rare Coin Auctions.
Conducted Jan. 27 in Beverly Hills, Calif., the auction featured 491 lots.
The record price includes a 17.5 percent buyer’s fee.
“We are very pleased with the results of our first ever standalone auction; the numbers tell the story best,” said Julie Abrams.
An 1896-O half dollar graded PCGS MS67 CAC from the Formula 1 Collection realized $123,375. This is the single finest known example with a provenance that goes back to the year of issue when J.M. Clapp purchased it directly from the Mint.
A 1920-S half dollar graded PCGS MS66+ CAC sold for $96,938.
An 1895-S half dollar graded PCGS MS67 CAC from the Formula 1 Collection realized $85,188. It is one of the finest of the date boasting the Duckor/Shireman pedigree.
