As part of Heritage Auctions’ Central States U.S. Coins Signature Auction, April 25-28, a 1914 half eagle, PR67 NGC, JD-1, Low R.5. is being offered.
Between 60 and 75 specimens of the 1914 are believed extant. NGC and PCGS have certified 59 combined, with most in the PR64 to PR66 range. Thus far, there are five PR67 submissions at NGC and two more at PCGS.
A previous Heritage auction from 2012 realized $46,000 for this coin. Stack’s Bowers reported final auction price of $111,625 in their November 2015 Baltimore U.S. Coins Auction, while Legend Rare Coin Auctions reported a $108,688 sale in their November 2018 Regency Auction 29.\
Such an increase in the more recent auctions could prove interesting for the seller in Heritage’s Central States Auction. Pricing in the U.S. Coin Digest database reports a value of $107,500.
