Platinum, anyone? The 2022 First Amendment to the United States Constitution platinum proof coin was set to roll out from the U.S. Mint on March 3.

The coin is the second in a five-year series of 1-ounce, 99.95 percent platinum proof coins that reflects the five freedoms outlined in the First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The series uses the life cycle of the oak tree from seedling to a mighty oak as a metaphor for the country’s growth as a nation that values freedom. Liberty grows to a thing of strength and beauty from a seed – the Bill of Rights. Each of the freedoms enumerated in the First Amendment contributes to the growth and development of the nation.

The 2022 issue features Freedom of Speech. The new obverse design depicts a branch from a juvenile oak tree framed with the inscription “WITH FREEDOM OF SPEECH LIBERTY BLOSSOMS.” Additional inscriptions are “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “2022.”

The common reverse design depicts an eagle in flight with an olive branch in its talons. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “$100,” “1 OZ.” and “.9995 PLATINUM.”

The Freedom of Speech coin carries mintage and product limits of 15,000. There is no household order limit.
