Collectors of the American Innovation coins should mark their calendars for Jan. 7, 2020 when the new American Innovation dollar Reverse Proof coin honoring New Jersey is set to sell at 12 noon (ET).

The American Innovation Dollar program celebrates and honors significant innovations and pioneering efforts of individuals or groups in each of the 50 states, District of Columbia, and US territories.

New Jersey is the third state to be featured in the American Innovation Dollar program. The new coin features the innovation of the electric lightbulb that was developed by Thomas Edison and his team of researchers who made lightbulbs available to the public. This marked the beginning of commercially manufactured light bulbs, giving people easy control over light in homes and businesses, drastically changing infrastructure, business, and society.

The reverse features an Edison lightbulb against an ornate background with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and “NEW JERSEY.” The obverse design features a presentation of the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions “ IN GOD WE TRUST” AND “ $1.” The obverse also has a stylized gear, representing industry and innovation. The edge-incused inscriptions are “2019,” “S” mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

Each coin is minted at San Francisco with a weight of 8.1 g and a diameter of 1.043 in. Also, each coin comes in an informational four-panel envelope package with an embedded Certificate of Authenticity and protective outer sleeve.

The mintage limit is 75,000 and has a household order limit of five. Price is $9.95 and can be ordered at 1-800-USA- MINT or catalog.usmint.gov.
