A Look Back…
World Coin News has reached quite the milestone. A brief look back on 50 years of our history.
World Coin News has reached quite the milestone, celebrating 50 years. Many things have changed over the years, the magazine has seen new editors, new writers, and even knew owners. Even now the magazine is constantly undergoing changes, changes to help improve not only the publication but the hobby as a whole. Improvements to the design to help promote readability and accessibility as well as bringing in new writers that can share their knowledge with their fellow hobbyists and numismatists. Even with all the different changes and improvements, some things will forever remain the same: the love, passion, and dedication to the hobby.
There’s never a shortage of topics to run within these pages; from ancient coins that date back to the beginning of coinage history to the latest issues that find their way into circulation or are simply there for collectors to enjoy. Coinage has a deep history that few outside the numismatics community have the appreciation for, and we on the WCN staff have always felt the honor and privilege of being able to help share the hobby with readers.
Many things happened in the Numismatics world in 1973. From notable auctions to exciting new releases and so much more. The Canadian Numismatics Association saw their first woman president, Louis Graham, who ran unopposed. The American Numismatic Association also saw their first woman president, Virginia Culvers, get elected at the same time which brought much excitement.
Even an entire dedicated issue of World Coin News isn’t enough to encompass all that the community experienced in 1973, let alone over the last 50 years. Instead, we’re taking a look at a few of our past issues and some of the coins released in 1973.
