In 2021, Monnaie de Paris inaugurated a new collection to celebrate literature through major works and authors. Each year, a literary style is highlighted. After poetry and theater, it's time for the adventure novel with Alexandre Dumas and his legendary musketeers. “The Three Musketeers,” published 180 years ago, narrates the adventures of D’Artagnan, a young man who aspires to become a musketeer to King Louis XIII. In his adventures, he befriends Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, experienced musketeers who will face the evil Cardinal Richelieu to save the honor of the Queen of France.

On the four 10-euro denominations, we find a musketeer in a combat position. To the left of the coin, the character's name is inscribed in the middle of fleurs-de-lis and swords, symbolizing the body of the king's musketeers.

Collectors can obtain coins in very limited mintage. Of the three denominations available, a common engraving with a portrait of Alexandre Dumas facing his four characters from the "Three Musketeers." The motto “One for all, all for one” appears at the bottom of the coin next to the author's birth and death dates. On the reverse is a common design of the “L’Art de la Plume” collection, large literary quotations, a stylized feather that symbolizes writing, and the name of the collection.
