Ten years ago the Royal Australian Mint introduced Wojciech Pietranik’s strikingly simple “Kangaroo at Sunset” design.

It has since figured each year on a 21.60 mm, fifth ounce .9999 fine gold $25 proof and from 2009-2016 on a 21.69 mm, 6.03 g .999 fine silver $1 proof.

Relatively low mintages helped make the coins popular. Each year’s gold proofs are distributed by ballot. To mark the 10th anniversary, RAM has released a one-ounce gold $100. The 34.00 mm, .999 fine proof has a mintage of 500. It carries a “10” privy mark under the initials WP.
