The Royal Mint Pays Tribute to Odin, the All-Father of Norse Mythology
The newly minted bullion bar from The Royal Mints pays homage to Odin, father of the Norse gods and the ruler of Asgard.
The Norse mythology gods were worshipped by Scandinavians during the Viking Age (AD 800 until 1050), including those who voyaged to Britain and settled in the country. The stories of these deities passed down through generations over the centuries, continue to enthrall and capture the imagination.
Odin is the father of the Norse gods; he rules as king in Asgard, the celestial realm where the foremost gods, known as the Aesir, reside. Odin is the god of wisdom who sacrificed one of his eyes to gain knowledge of the world. One of his great halls is called Valhalla, where fallen warriors ascend to drink, feast, and fight until they fight for Odin at Ragnarök, the twilight of the gods.
The All-Father is honored on a minted bullion bar range as the centerpiece of the design. Odin is depicted clasping his mighty spear, Gungnir, and he is accompanied by his animal familiars—the ravens Huginn and Muninn and the wolves Geri and Freki.
