Designs for a new Veterans medal were reviewed by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee and the Commission of Fine Arts in mid-November.
Both bodies agreed on the choices for the obverse and reverse, though the CFA asked for modifications to the obverse.
CFA members recommended the inscription be changed to “Honoring America’s Veterans” and altering the stars to work better with the recommended reverse, according to the U.S. Mint.
The medal is to be struck in silver in 2019 and sold in a special set with a 2019 American Legion commemorative silver dollar.
In 2020, a bronze version will be struck in 3-inch and 1.5-inch bronze.
The Mint said these are national medals and will be sold without limit in perpetuity.
Members of the CCAC and CFA made their choices from a group of 35 submissions.
