A new set of elongated coins from collector Michael Mochizuki honors Maui’s Kahului Railroad Company. It is the fourth installment in his Historic Railroads of Hawaii series.
Featured on the four elongated copper cents are the K.R.R. locomotives Claus No. 1, built in 1882, and the K.R.R. No. 12, built in 1929. A third EC bears the company’s logo that was in use from 1881 to 1966 and a map of the Island of Maui. The fourth piece features an 1894 Parcel Stamp.
The Kahului Railroad Company is the only railroad in history to issue private parcel stamps for use in prepaying freight and parcels.
The set is available for $8 each including postage to U.S. addresses.
Each set includes a brochure with historical information on each design in the series. Series I, II and III sets are still available for $8 per set.
