A second candidate has made this year’s American Numismatic Association election a race for the vice presidency.
Life Member Arthur Fitts declared his candidacy Jan. 17.
Already announced is Walter Ostromecki.
Fitts cited his decades of service to ANA and his experience in education, business management and his communication skills.
He asserted his commitment to the ANA this way: “Advancement of Numismatics for All.
“I am gratified to see how well our association has recovered from some very threatening times. Having re-established its financial stability and regained the confidence of our membership, now is the time to reinvigorate the promotion of our hobby to young and old alike.”
Education is a key to the association’s future successes, he said. Modern technologies must be implemented to enhance the accessibility of the library and museum, making these world-class resources available to all, Fitts explained.
He said the ANA website must be revamped and made more user friendly.
Fitts suggests the ANA should seek ways to expand its outreach to retirees and their communities and encourage greater dealer involvement in educational programs and recruitment.
He believes these initiatives – and other innovations – can be achieved while nurturing ANA’s financial resources.
“I am proud of my contributions to the ANA and its achievements during my years of service and teamwork, and I greatly appreciate the awards and recognition accorded me in the past. There is much yet to be accomplished, and I enthusiastically ask for your support: together we can Advance Numismatics for All,” he said.
