Featured in the sale, which includes a Platinum Night, will be what is likely the finest known 1921 Saint-Gaudens $20 gold piece, according to the catalogers.
The coin is graded MS-66 Secure by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
It is from the Duckor Collection and will likely attract a bid that will surpass $1 million.
The firm notes it sold the Morse example for $1,092,500 Nov. 3, 2005. It was graded PCGS MS-66.
The Duckor specimen was uncertified at the time of the Morse sale, Heritage points out. Heritage said Dr. Duckor is both a connoisseur and an astute student of the Saint-Gaudens series and he spent more than 33 years building his two sets. When this coin was recently certified, PCGS awarded a grade of MS-66, tied with the Morse coin for finest certified at either leading grading service.

“The standing of the 1921 in the overall hierarchy of Saint-Gaudens double eagle rarities has changed less over the last seven decades than any other regular issue in the series. During that time, some issues have dropped precipitously from their place at the top (1924-S and 1926-S for example) and others have risen substantially (1920-S, 1930-S and especially 1927-D) but the 1921 has always been recognized as being among the top four rarities of the series, both 70 years ago and today, at least with respect to value. The only thing that has changed is the other three coins with it at the top. The 1921 is now considered to be the second most valuable regular issue Saint-Gaudens double eagle, surpassed only by the 1927-D,” Akers wrote.
Heritage will place another rarity on the block, a Proof-64 1829 $5 with a large date.

The cataloger notes that this piece, BD-1, is the Garrett specimen and the only certified proof of its type.
It is a Proof-64 PCGS Secure with a CAC sticker.
Heritage said there are seven large date coins in all grades, including proof, Mint State and circulated.
Among the other coins to be put on the auction block will be gold coins from Galt’s Gulch Collection, the Klamath Mountain Collection and the Cherokee County Collection.
Among the nongold highlights will be the Denis W. Loring Collection of 1793 Large Cents.
