Gold was stronger in 2017. It was up 13.6 percent to close the year at $1,306.30 a troy ounce. The close at the end of 2016 was $1,150.
Silver moved up by 7.1 percent to $17.06. The ending 2016 number was $15.936 an ounce.
Bullion investors are anxious to begin to stake their claims to 2018-dated American Eagles and Buffalo bullion coins, but so far no release date has been revealed by the United States Mint. It is expected to occur sometime in mid-to-late January.
