Lincoln cents, gold, classic type coins and paper money from the Peter Huntoon collection highlight Bowers and Merena Auctions? 1,800-lot Milwaukee Rarities sale set for Aug. 4.
?I think we have really outdone ourselves for this auction,? said Steve Deeds, B&M president. ?We have an impressive list of collections that includes Dan Close?s Lincoln cents, some fresh Peter Huntoon notes, Drinen?s Buffalo nickels and the Green River Collection of Morgan dollars.?
Centerpiece of the sale is the Dan Close ?Close to Perfect? Collection as B&M is calling it, citing that it is the No. 1 All-Time Finest PCGS Registry Set of Lincoln cents with varieties, circulation strikes (1909-present). The entire collection, 242 lots, boasts a PCGS Set Rating of 68.21, the highest rating ever for its category, catalogers said.
?Among my personal favorites in the Dan Close ?Close to Perfect? Collection is the 1917 FS-013 doubled-die obverse, said Deeds. ?This is one of the better-preserved examples of this popular mint error, with a PCGS population of just four in MS-66 Red and another two finer.?
A former Eliasberg half dollar, an 1836 Capped Bust, Overton 116, graded NGC Proof-67, is another sale highlight.
