Member-designed medals mark 60th

The Redwood Empire Coin Club of Santa Rosa, Calif., has commemorated its 60th anniversary in 2009 with the issuance of a new medal. Several members submitted designs, and that of Merle Avila won the vote.

The Redwood Empire Coin Club of Santa Rosa, Calif., has commemorated its 60th anniversary in 2009 with the issuance of a new medal. Several members submitted designs, and that of Merle Avila won the vote.

The commemorative medal was unveiled at RECC’s 41st Annual Coin Show Feb. 20 in Santa Rosa, which also marked the club’s 700th monthly meeting.

The medals have been produced in silver (numbered 1-100), aluminum, golden bronze and copper bronze. They all measure 39mm in diameter.

The silver commemorative medals are available for $22 each. The aluminum, golden bronze and copper bronze medals are available for $3.50 each.

RECC’S first meeting was held on March 26, 1949, and there were 18 charter members to begin with. Currently it has a total of 172 members including 33 junior members. Monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month with an average attendance of 70 members.
