The 125th anniversary of the American Numismatic Association was marked by the Michigan State Senate by formal resolution.
Introduced by State Senator Steve Bieda, the resolution passed Sept. 6.
A framed copy was given to former ANA President Tom Hallenbeck Sept. 9 at ANA Headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Bieda noted that the ANA was conceived by Michigan native, Dr. George Heath of Monroe. Heath also created and published The Numismatist in 1888, which later became the ANA’s national publication.
The ANA logo, featuring the “lamp of knowledge,” was adapted from the University of Michigan logo.
These many ties between the ANA and Michigan were recognized in the text of the resolution.
“I’m a proud life member of the ANA, with a real passion for collecting,” said Bieda, who represents a senate district near Monroe.
The resolution recognizes the ANA with its 25,000 members as the world’s largest non-profit numismatic organization.
