Mint offers bronze Brooke medal

A bronze duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to Senator Edward William Brooke III is now available from the U.S. Mint.

A bronze duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to Senator Edward William Brooke III is now available from the U.S. Mint.

The medal honors Brooke for his unprecedented and enduring service to the United States. He was the first African-American elected by popular vote to the United States Senate and served for two terms from Jan. 3, 1967, to Jan. 3, 1979.

Available in 3-inch and 1-1/2-inch sizes, the medal’s obverse features an image of Brooke with his name to the right. The reverse depicts the United States Capitol Building at the top and the Massachusetts State House at the bottom between two olive branches. The center of the design showcases the inscription, “America’s greatness lies in its wondrous diversity, Our magnificent pluralism has made this country great, Our ever-widening diversity will keep us great.”

The 3-inch medal is available for $38, and the 1-1/2-inch medal costs $3.75.
