Sales of silver American Eagle bullion coins surpassed the September monthly sales total during the first half of October.

As of Oct. 18, the Mint had sold 750,000 to its Authorized Purchasers, far ahead of the 320,000 coins sold in all of September.

With nearly two weeks to go, the August silver Eagle sales total of 1,025,000 looks within reach.

Gold American Eagle sales totals were slightly ahead of September. Some 8,000 one-ounce coins were vended, as were 2,000 half ounces, 2,000 quarter ounces and 25,000 tenth ounces. In all, 12,000 ounces of gold were sold by Oct. 18.
