David E. Schenkman, a token researcher and cataloger, has completed an 15-20 page article on steamer tokens, which will include more than 70 illustrations. The article will appear in the April 2007 issue of the Token and Medal Society?s TAMS Journal.
?Steamer tokens are a fascinating area of exonumia, but little known due to their rarity,? said Robert D. Leonard Jr., club president.
The April 2007 issue of the TAMS Journal will be sent to all current members of the Token and Medal Society, plus every one who joins the society by April 1.
Founded in 1960, the Token and Medal Society is now in its 47th year with about 1,000 members who collect exonumia.
Annual dues of the organization are $25 for U.S. members and $30 outside the United States.
For additional information write to Rachel Irish, Secretary, 101 W. Prairie Center #323, Hayden, ID 83835.
Besides the bimonthly TAMS Journal, other benefits of membership include access to the society?s library of token and medal literature, assistance in identification of unattributed tokens nicknamed ?mavericks,? and free classified ads.
