The fourth in a series of annual Native American dollar design reverses features profiles of a Native American and a horse to mark the theme “Trade Routes in the 17th Century.”
The 2012 dollar carries the familiar Sacagawea obverse design that was introduced in 2000 and then modified in 2009 to put the date and mintmark on the edge with “E Pluribus Unum.”
Denver struck 840,000 of the coins in January. The coins will be sold by the Mint to collectors later this year.
