The Middletown, Pa., Area Historical Society issued two wooden nickels during its 34th Annual Middletown Fair, formerly the Colonial Craft Fair, at Hoffer Park in Middletown June 13-14.

The theme for this year’s woods is Middletown’s disasters.

One of the woods shows the cooling towers at Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station. It commemorates the 30th anniversary of the nuclear meltdown that occurred in 1979.

The second wood shows a P-38 fighter plane from Olmsted Air Force Base that crashed into the home of Dr. Oliver Swartz Sr. in midtown Middletown in 1942.

Both of the woods are blue in color. They can be ordered from the Middletown Area Historical Society by writing P.O. Box 248, Middletown, PA 17057.

The cost is $1 per set plus a self-addressed, stamped envelope or sufficient postage.
