2023 Coin of the Year: Best Circulating Coin

One of the most popular designs in all Canadian coinage, the Bluenose 10 cent piece is iconic both in the pocket and in national identity. A lovely silver crown was also issued for the 100th Anniversary of the Bluenose, but this little circulating coin, with its tasteful use of striking blue colored waves reached out to both everyday people and world-wide collectors alike and became a keepsake for everyone. There was never any question that this coin would earn a nomination for Best Circulating Coin, but when it came to voting we could see that the Judges had a tough time deciding. The top four coins had a very tight spread and in the end The Bluenose pulled into the lead by just 15 percent for the win.
