Sand dollars have long fascinated children and tourists on beaches throughout the world.
Lichtenstein’s Coin Invest Trust has now replicated these flattened urchins as gold and silver coins struck for the Republic of Palau. Two $1 pieces are currently available: 13.92 mm, 1 g .9999 fine gold BU and a 50 mm, 1 oz .999 fine silver proof. Mintages are 2017 of each.
Both coins imitate the shape of a full grown sand dollar: a rounded, somewhat irregular pentagonal outline. The gold is pierced in five places as in the natural shell of some species. The silver is of high relief having been produced by Smartminting®.
Both items were available at the Coin Invest Trust website: www.coin-invest.li.
