Is there a coin show you try to attend every year? Why or why not?

From the February 2, 2024, Numismatic News E-Newsletter Readers’ Poll – Your favorite coin shows.

Florida United Numismatists

The F.U.N. show. I believe it’s the finest, best-run show in the country. At one time or another, I’ve been to all the major shows at least once. The F.U.N show just suits me. The show is so large you can’t do it justice in one day. This is the show I attempt to attend every year.

I also like the Central States show, and the World’s Fair of Money show outside of Chicago.

Gary R Gagne, Palmetto, Fla.

I always attend my own club’s show held on the first Saturday in February each year. I am the treasurer of the South Hills Coin Club located in Bethel Park, Pa. This year, we had over 300 attendees. So we had a very successful show.

Dave Burdis, Charleroi, Pa.

I always try to attend the TNA show.

Joel Gossage, Wylie, Texas

I’ve stopped going to the Baltimore Coin Show because of the crime around that area.

There are a couple of coin shows that I try to attend every year, along with a couple of ones sponsored by local clubs. Coin shows are an important way to see a wide variety of coins as quickly as possible. They are also helpful in meeting dealers and other coin collectors. Coin shows are a relaxing way for me to spend a good portion of a day; whether I purchase one coin or several, I enjoy the interaction and large inventory to explore.

 Timothy Scharr, Aviston, Ill.

The Azalea Festival in Wilmington, N.C., has a coin show annually during the N.C. Azalea Festival in April. I always attend and encourage others to attend Southeastern N.C.’s largest coin show.

There are dealers from several states in attendance and they offer lots of selection for collectors who of all ages, including kids.

Warren Kennedy, Castle Hayne, N.C.

I go to the Fargo, N.D. shows in November and January every year. It’s fun to see what people have to offer and to see the enthusiasm in the younger generation. It’s also a challenge to find coins to add to my collection.

The Enid coin show in Enid, Okla., is one of the best shows I have attended. Lots of coins to look at and lots of friendly faces who genuinely engage with you.

I particularly enjoyed the Virginia Numismatic Association annual coin show in Fredericksburg.

Always looking to attend the F.U.N. show in January. I have a timeshare in Florida, so I try to attend when I’m down there.

Michael McKinnon, Crawfordsville, Ind.

Yes, the Baltimore Whitman Coin Show, because it’s only an hour’s drive from my home in Northern Virginia, has a great array of respected dealers in all areas of numismatic interests, and I get to interact with many of the dealers and friends who attend the show. And I always make it a point to buy several numismatic books on my list.

Lorne Lavertu, Herndon, Va.

I try to attend the Duncan/Stephens County coin show every year they have one. The reason is that it is close to me. Less than 50 miles. Same for the show in Enid. My problem is I am often in England attending to my Reserve Military duties as Colonel of the Regiment. So, I am not in the States very much at times. I spent 23 years as a U.S. Army Green Beret, but a few years after I retired, Queen Elizabeth appointed me to the position with the Lancastrian and Cumbrian Reserve Regiment in 1999. So I started my career in 2 tours in Vietnam and I’m still on call. This is even though I “retired” right after the Queen passed away. I have over 50 years of military service. The appointment is a lifetime one for me, so I’m always subject to recall at the King’s pleasure. I am Lord of an Estate in Cumbria, England. I do get to go to some of the most fantastic coin dealers in the UK and have almost one of each Monarch’s coin of British history, dating back to the 500s!

Colonel Lord Steven Cohn, MC, QVRM.

I try to attend the TNA show every year.

I try to attend the Bay State Coin Show in Marlborough, Mass., every year. I also like the two New Hampshire Coin and Currency shows in Manchester, N.H., each year. Great dealers, good coins, safe environment.
