Poll: Do you collect medals? Why or why not?

Yes, I do collect some medals from the U.S. Mint, such as those honoring the Military or Presidents. I used to try to collect most, but since the big price increase the Mint added to coins and medals, I have reconsidered and will be buying fewer coins and probably will cut back even more on the medals. Along with what I consider a bad idea of the movie hero coins/medals, which the mint is doing, I would not spend my money on them.

I do collect a few. I won the 3” San Diego commemorative in a club raffle and thought it was really cool. Also, since buying the first two silver presidential medals from the Mint, I decided to subscribe. The only drawback is they are now $90 instead of $40 when sales began.

Yes, I have an extensive collection of French and American metals. I presented at the ANA World’s Fair of Money last August with a large presentation on French medals tokens in Ganz. I love the art from the classical designers of this. I have written several articles for my local coin club in Grand Rapids, Mich., and for the Michigan Numismatic Society quarterly magazine as well. I love to help educate others about this space.
